Just 1 God...The True Biblical Foundation
Colossians 2:8-12
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
It is interesting that Paul warns against philosophy, vain deceit, tradition of men, and rudiments of the world, and then links this warning to the declaration that in Jesus dwells ALL THE FULNESS OF THE GODHEAD bodily. The word that Paul uses that is translated as spoil, is a Greek word that means "to lead away from." Paul is telling us that the philosophies, the deceit and the traditions of men are trying to lead us away from the truth that in Jesus dwells all the fulness of the Godhead. He then adds that we are COMPLETE in him (Jesus). He is ALL we need. Jesus is EVERYTHING that we need. Continually in the Old Testament the basic foundation is laid down for us that there is only one God. The traditions of men try to teach us something different.
The very foundation of the Jewish belief that there is ONLY ONE GOD is firmly there because of the commandment that God made to them in Deuteronomy chapter 6, verses 4 through 9. 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Throughout the Old Testament, scripture emphasizes that there is just ONE GOD and the New Testament reaffirms to us that Jesus is God come to the earth (or "manifested in the flesh" as 1 Timothy 3:16 puts it) to become the Saviour He mentions in the passages like the following...
Isaiah 43:3, 10-15, 25 3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
14 Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.
25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
Jehovah is the Holy One and the Saviour. There is no Saviour other than this one God that is speaking in these scriptures, so when the Saviour comes to this world, we should know who He is. These terms such as Redeemer, Holy One, Saviour, Creator, and King, are all terms that are applied to Jesus in the New Testament.
Isaiah 44:6, 8, 24 6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
Again, Jehovah is the LORD, King, Redeemer, the First and the Last, and beside Him there is NO GOD.
Verse 8: If there is another God, Jehovah does not know about it.
Verse 24: Jehovah is the God that made all things, created the Heavens and earth alone, by Himself, and there was no other God with Him.
Isaiah 45:5-6, 15, 18 5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
All these scriptures simply re-emphasize the fact that there is only one God that is the Saviour and Creator, and there is no other God beside Him.
Isaiah 45:21-24 21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
Jehovah is the only God and Saviour there is, and unto Him every knee will bow and every tongue will confess.
Isaiah 48:11-12 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
It is amazing when we see scriptures like Revelation 1, verses 8 & 11, where Jesus is called the first and the last, and know that Jehovah declared that His Glory will remain upon Himself. The only way for that to have happened is if Jesus of the New Testament is Jehovah fulfilling His desire to become our Saviour. We further see to Whom the knee will bow to in this passage of scripture...
Philippians 2:9-11 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The name of Jesus is above every name, and at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah. It proves that Jesus is the one God of the Old Testament. Notice the terms used here also. Verse 9: God (Spirit) exalted him (the flesh that He is using to bring redemption). Verse 11: Every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Spirit).
JESUS AS THE FATHER Isaiah 9:6-7 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
The son to be born is referred to as the "Mighty God", and the "Everlasting FATHER", which proves again that Jesus is the one God of the Old Testament that came in human flesh to redeem man from the penalty for sin through the death of His flesh on Calvary. This is why the NAME of JESUS must be used in water baptism for the remission of your sins. Satan would love for you to "skip" the NAME and only use TITLES, like "Father, Son and Holy Ghost" when you go down into the water for the remission of your sins. Satan would love for you to still have your sins on you when you come out of the water. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. If you do not know the full identity of Jesus and the POWER of His name, then you may have "skipped" the NAME in appying His blood to your sins in water baptism. There is just one God, and He became your Saviour...JESUS!
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

The son to be born is referred to as the "Mighty God", and the "Everlasting FATHER", which proves again that Jesus is the one God of the Old Testament that came in human flesh to redeem man from the penalty for sin through the death of His flesh on Calvary.
